Ihave noticed that logos can be terribly expensive.

Are prices for logs based on their earning potential as opposed to time spent from the beginning of the design process through completion?

Well, it all depends on what you want. I got a logo for my website done for 50 dollars. I was not looking for anything sophisticated or expensive.
I think prices reflect the level of time and expertise required to make one.
As many other website related things that require special training and technical knowledge things can get quite pricey!

You said that right. They can cost a lot. It does just depend on what you are looking for.

It all depends upon the skill of the freelancer you are hiring and the time limit you give to him. Sometimes the cost of designing a logo will be much costlier than the cost of the hosting plan.

a great, creative artist can create a gorgeous logo in ten minutes that will sell for $1000.

a mediocre person can spend a week on a logo that will sell for $75

it is, in my opinion, a combination of time AND talent/creativity

In the end, all that matters is what the logo looks like!

Further some logo's can be really expensive and it may take certain time frame depending upon your demand and quality. Some of my friends design logo for 150$ and they generally take 2 to three weeks for designing them.

It's a matter of chance.
The greatest players fail at times.

Just depends on how quick the designer is able to create a design that both the designer and the client agree on.

Also yes it depends on the designer and also the place you're getting a logo made from.

Designing is a work that involves brain and thinking. It has to be expensive and I don't see any thing wrong with the prices.
