I've been to many websites where some of the flash ends up messing up my computer. I have a slower connection and I tend to shy away from sites that slow my computer down.

Not really flash there is a issue, it is typically Firefug's Net function or other plugin's that make my browser crash, so actually IE is the most stable i have in the moment :-)

Have you tried Google Chrome? I gave up on IE a long time ago, using Firefox for most of the time, but I have to admitt Google made a good job here too.

Different sites are coded different ways for difference browsers, and not everything always gets along with everything else. Try swapping browsers just in case. :)

There are many reasons to why a flash application or design will make the computer run slower. The memory of the computer could be low and it can't run the flash apps the normal way. The browser being used is another reason so trying another browser is a good way to check the problem. If the browser is not the problem then the internet connection could be the problem.

I guess minimizing flash application in a website is a good idea because not everyone has a fast computer or good internet connection.

I am not having any problem at all, not that my connection is faster but because of the fact of the browser I am using. I am using Firefox and it blocks those unwanted pop-ups in a site.

I haven't used IE in forever. It always crashed on me. I use FF for 99.9% of my online searching. I don't have GC. How is it with flash? Does it tend to slow things down?

Sounds like flash can be a very tricky thing to work with. I think one must have a very creative reason to use it because it seems you give up functionality when you use flash just because not every one has a computer/browser or what not that can cope with it.

I don't have any complains if there are flash designs in the website. In fact, I enjoyed watching funny animation flash. For me, it adds humor and removes boredom of the viewers. In terms of internet connection, no problems so far. Flash is only distracting if your computer is always hanging up.
