flash for marketing

I want to use flash design for marketing on my home page. But I am told that this could actually lose me traffic. I just wanted to know if that is true and why.

I just looked it up seeing as I am trying to learn to join the digital age. Apparently a good 3rd of people do not have the right sort of computer equipment or software to view a flash. I suppose that might turn people off. How about you make it an optional flash, not on the front page and what not?

For me its when I see too much flash. If you have an entire site with only images how is Google going to find you? Where is the content at, hidden within the images??

I've encountered lots of flash emails on my inbox. Some are good and others are very annoying. Of course, adding flash is a plus factor in marketing but make sure that it's done professionally in order to attact clients.
