I am about to purchase a new computer. Kind of a last minute thing due to damage to this one. I have to be quick but I want something good. I am going with a PC, but I don't know what kind of processor is best. Any tips???

You could go with an intel brand or AMD since they are the ones that are leading right now when it comes with processor. If you arent concerned about the price then you could go with Intel since it is really faster.

Based on my own experience, Advanced Micro Device is better than Intel. Actually, I have both brands in the office. In terms of excellent performance, I prefer AMD processor. It's the best in the market today. It's very competitive and most of all it gives me satisfaction.

Sounds like some good suggestions. Is there a certain kind that anyone recommends. Do you think than an Intel Core2 Duo would do the job alright for me? Thanks.

How much is your budget for your computer. This is very important to know so we can advice the best processor that you need. I've only tried Intel and AMD processors. Intel is good for graphics while AMD is for fast performance of the computer. You can try Intel i5 or i3 if you are aiming for Core 2 Duo.

Thanks for the advice. Since this is a work computer and helps me make my income I try to budget as much as I can towards the hardware and software with out over doing it. I want to spend about 2k USD if its possible. I can go over that if I really do need to but don't want to go over 3k if I can help it.

If you have that kind of budget then I suggest that you go for an Intel i7 processor. I think this the latest processor of Intel. You can check the prices of Intel processors here: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37147 or http://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-Core-i7-nehalem,6608.html

Getting a 1GB video card would also help if you have designing programs. If you can avail of a much higher quality graphic card then go for it.

We have an Intel processor and it works great for us. Really, when choosing it depends a lot on how exactly you are planning to use your computer i would think.

For a workstation, I would suggest an Intel brand since they are much faster than any processors out there. Just remember that it needs 2 memories to support it, it means that if you want a 2 gb memory then you got to put 2 1 gb memory in it. If you just put 1 2 gb memory then it will have a short life.

I always place 2 memories on the computer that I build because it is cheaper. I never thought that it would lengthen the life of the memories if they are in pairs. I think it is alright to place one memory as long as the memory is of good quality and has a lifetime warranty.
