Font Color in Web Design

I work on a small business website in my spare time and was curious about what most people think is the easiest font, text color, and background color to read. I know that occasionally I come across a website that has a type of font or color that just makes everything difficult to read. It makes me want to leave the website. Does anyone have any preferences?
