Logos - Text and/or Symbols?
I think the time is changing a little, the last year many companies have moved away from symbols attached to their logo. And just keep the logo as text with a special custom font. Ofcause Nike, Apple ect. still uses symbols. but are we moving away from symbols what do you guys think? Do you still create logos with symbols?

i think that it is still cool and good to see many logos of different companies and brands. that makes it very attractive. but then maybe some just want changes and try out some other things. for me, logos should still be considered.

One of the reasons, for companies to move away from symbols, in my opinion, is because a lot of logos were similar to others already existent. With millions of companies worldwide, i think it's impossible to have a logo that isn't similar in any way with other.

are you refering to company logos when you say symbols?
I don't think companies would ever want to exclude those from their presentation

sometimes these symbols say more than words, like when you drive by a Starbucks, you see the green circle, and you know you want to pull in

not many words needed

I prefer the logos to be text. But that involves a huge task in designing their task and other things. A picture can be drawn. But i give importance to the text which will look simpler. The simplest things will be easily remembered.

Frankly, I think that until you can be recognized by your logo alone you better put the name of the company in there. We're not all Nike.

Most of the big names are recognized by their logos only, I feel people won't accept the products without the logos. If the logo is attractive, it says all.

I don't even think that the logos need to be attractive, look at the macdonalds bright yellow logo for example, it is recognised all over the world.

I think logos look nice but the problem is that not everyone can remember what logo is for what product. I know when I look at a logo it might look familiar but I don't know what it's supposed to represent. Give me text any day of the week.

Well, to me it doesn't matter whether a logo contains symbol or text. It is the marketing and promotional efforts that a company do that can make people remembering the logo of their companies.

Couldn't agree more, it's all about how it is taken in by those who are seeing the logo, if you see a check that is configured like Nike's do you think of a good mark on a test or sneakers? When you see a target symbol in a movie or on a TV, the thought of target comes into your head, as does the best buy yellow price tag.

Logos with symbols are cool, they are time tested and the most successful companies use them.

Actually, logos are made to capture company's concept. Thus, it must be creative and trendy. Along with it's design should be the text of the company's name for easy reference.

Coming up with a brilliant logo design is not easy. However, if a company comes up with a great logo it can work tremendously for it
