Web Design vs Web Development

Can someone please explain to me the difference between website design and website development? Is there much of a difference?

Web Design vs Web Development

Website Design is just the design of a website, the layout in other words and has nothing to do with coding the site.

Web development on the other hand is not designing it is programming getting the site to work by use of databases and so on. I am just a designer so not sure that the Web development definition i just made here is 100% corret. But it is something like that.

Yes, there is a big difference!

Web Design, as the above poster said is designing a web page, web development could include web design , but is mostly adding databases, handing email accounts, configuring web server/hosting, programing functions into the site.. eg. forums, donation system, contact us page.

Web design is mostly confined to script designing.Web development includes checking, maintaining and the over all assessments of web pages.
