What would be considered the main components of a solidly designed website? What must a design schematic include in order to be considered aesthetically pleasing?

I think it has to be easy to navigate, and not too overly complicated. I also think it is important to have a lot of white space on any given page and good spacing between text to make it easy to read.

I think it should have simple user interfaces with easy navigation. There should not be any bugs or errors in it.

For me, one thing to consider in designing is the relevance of information in content.

I like calm earthy colors versus bold colors that bother your eyes. The layout needs to be user friendly and organzied without causing your eyes to bounce around aimlessly. I like user friendly websites that go straight to the point. Nothing is more frustrating than searching all over for a log in or sign out icon. I must confess that I sometimes leave a website if I find it confusing or unappealing.

Easy navigation, attractive colors i.e. it should not hurt your eyes when you look at it. Colors should complement one another, there's no problem if simple and plain colors were used as long as the designer knows how to put them together.

I don't mind bold colours if they're not overdone.
The information on a site is what will make me stay and browse, or exit the page completely and never come back.
The info itself has to be short and to the point. Web surfers have short attention spans and I'm no exception... If I have to spend time searching for the info I want then I most likely won't be back to that site.

Easy navigation and nevigation that goes where it is supposed to. I am increasingly frustrated when you have to click on 3 links to finally get to the destination. The links should be simple and focused. Easy-on-the-eyes colors helps, and an uncluttered site is a must. Some sites just crowd too much onto their page. As someone with an older computer, if you want my business, you can't overload your page with streaming and video that is gonna kill my memory.

Yes, easy navigation is the very important aspect for me to consider. Once I find a site which is not user friendly, then I leave it without having any second thoughts at all.

I think it's most important to have a design that is easy to use. I like a website with aesthetically pleasing, calming colors, and a user interface that is pretty much dummy-proof. Also, I find it better in my opinion if each page does not require a lot of scrolling. When the homepage of a particular site requires a lot of scrolling to view the whole thing, I find it kind of amateur.

I think that one of the most important elements of great design is speed.
All the great layout and navigation in the world means nothing if your potential client leaves before the first page of the site loads.

Speed is often part of the user's computer more than the website. I know the server plays a part in that, too, but the difference in a dinosaur computer and a bells and whistle one is pretty dramatic.

I would consider the following as the 'great 4' as far as web design is concerned.
layout
color
fonts
navigation
